I often use sweetened butter bean paste for making Japanese sweets, but my husband is not a big fan of sweetened beans. He doesn’t eat even ‘Azuki’ Red Bean paste which is an essential ingredient for Asian sweets. I realised that the sweetness and the flavour of beans are not a good mix for some people. Then I added a variety of flavours to the butter bean paste. These spreads are just delicious and anyone can enjoy.
Plain Butter Bean Spread
200g Canned Butter Beans
*You get about 200g Beans from a 400g can.
100g Butter *softened
1/4 cup Caster Sugar
Cream OR Milk *optional
Rinse Butter Beans and drain very well. Place Butter Beans, softened Butter and Sugar into a food processor and make them into smooth paste. To make the mixture softer, add small amount of Cream or Milk and process to combine.
By adding extra ingredients to ‘Plain Butter Bean Spread’, you can create a variety of flavours.
