Black Sesame flavoured desserts are popular in Japan. They are grey coloured and might spoil your appetite, but Black Sesame desserts are nutritious and delicious. If you like the flavour of nuts, you would like Black Sesame flavour. This ‘Black Sesame Ice Cream’ is easy to make at home.

Ingredients

About 1 cupful Good Quality Vanilla Ice Cream *softened
2 tablespoons Toasted Black Sesame Seeds
*Note: Already toasted or roasted Sesame Seeds are available from most Asian grocery stores.

Method
  1. Leave the ice cream at room temperature until softens.
  2. If you use raw Black Sesame Seeds, toast them using a saucepan for a few minutes or until aromatic. Place the toasted Sesame Seeds in ‘Suribachi (Japanese mortar)’ and grind into smooth paste. *Note: If you use a food grinder or small food processor, you need to increase the amount and add some Milk that helps the process.
  3. When the ice cream is just soft enough, add Black Sesame paste, and mix well. Place in the freezer to firm up.
