There is a popular fried dumpling filled with Sweet Azuki Paste and coated with Sesame Seeds. I tried to make something similar to it using Spring Roll Wrappers. This dessert is absolutely easy to make. Fried crunchy Sesame Seeds and Sweet Azuki Paste are delicious when combined. I like to use Black Sesame Seeds for sweets, but White Sesame Seeds are also suitable.

Makes

8 Pieces

Ingredients

2 sheets Spring Roll Wrapper
8 tablespoons Tsubu-an (Sweet Azuki Paste)
1/2 tablespoon Plain Flour *mixed with 1 tablespoon Water
2 tablespoons Sesame Seeds *Today I used Black Sesame Seeds
Oil for cooking

Method
  1. Cut each large square sheet into 4 pieces. If you use smaller sheets, alter the amount of filling accordingly.
  2. Place 1 piece of Spring Roll Wrapper on a flat surface with a corner facing you. Cover remaining wrappers with a dump tea towel to prevent them from drying out.
  3. Place 1 tablespoon Sweet Azuki Paste, fold the front corner over and roll up slightly, fold in side corners, then roll up firmly to enclose. Wet the last corner with water to seal. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
  4. Mix Plain Flour and Water in a bowl. Wet the rolls with it, and coat them with Sesame Seeds.
  5. Heat Oil about depth of 2cm in a saucepan over medium low heat. Carefully place the rolls into the Oil. Cook, turning occasionally, for 2 to 3 minutes or until crunchy. Transfer onto a plate lined with paper towel.
  6. Enjoy while the rolls are still hot and crunchy.
