Crumble can be made without an oven. This crunchy Crumble was made in a frying pan, and it is the most energy efficient method. Add this Crumble to Pan-stewed Apple, and that is Apple Crumble as you can see the photo below. You can add this Crumble to other stewed fruit, canned fruit, OR ice cream, etc. If you prefer oven method, see ‘Cinnamon Crumble’ recipe.
Makes
4 Servings
Ingredients
50g Butter *softened
3 to 4 tablespoons Caster Sugar *4 tablespoons is about 50g
1/2 cup (about 85g) Plain Flour OR Self-Raising Flour
*Note: 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon can be added
Method
- Place softened Butter in a bowl, add all dry ingredients, and mix well to form crumble. If the mixture looks too fine like sands, it is OK.
- Heat a frying pan, non-stick preferred, over low heat. Cook the Crumble mixture, stirring and tossing the pan frequently, until golden, It would take 10 to 15 minutes. *Note: As the Butter in the mixture melts, Crumble tends to stick to each other and form larger pieces. You need to break them if they become too large, but DO NOT break too much.
- Once the Crumble is golden, spread over a plate. It becomes crunchy as it cools. The photo below is Pan-stewed Apple with this Crumble and thickened Cream.
