When I was a little girl, Frozen Azuki Milk was a popular treat. It was available as an icy pole OR in a cup. It is actually easy to make at home if you have a freezer and ice tray. Milk can be sweetened with Sugar OR Condensed Milk, etc. Please use an ice tray or silicone moulds that can make bite-size cubes. Large cubes are too difficult to eat.

Makes

14 Pieces

Ingredients

1/4 cup Tsubu-an (Sweet Azuki Paste) *about 1 teaspoon per cube
1/2 cup Milk
Sugar, Condensed Milk, OR other sweetener as required *I used 1 tablespoon Condensed Milk

Method
  1. I recommend to use an ice tray or silicone moulds that can make bite-size cubes. Large cubes are too difficult to eat.
  2. Mix all ingredients and pour the mixture into the moulds. Distribute Azuki beans evenly. Freeze until firm.
  3. Alternatively, you can place about 1 teaspoon of Tsubu-an (Sweet Azuki Paste) in each mould. Mix Milk and the sweetener of your choice, and pour the Milk mixture over Azuki paste in each mould. Freeze until firm.

  4. To take out the frozen Azuki Milk, dipping the bottom of the tray in warm water would help. Rock-hard Azuki Milk is too difficult to eat. Leave them at room temperature for a while until slightly softened.
