I love this ‘Mixed Grains’. It’s mostly Medium Grain Brown Rice, which is mixed with Wild Rice, Barley and Quinoa. You can make your own mix by adding whatever grains you love. Even a small type of beans such as Azuki can be added. However you must be aware of the cooking time of the ingredients. Some grains and beans can be cooked quickly. Mixing that type of ingredients with hard-to-cook brown rice would be difficult. I recommend you to cook more than you need and freeze the leftovers. Having cooked ‘Mixed Grains” in the freezer is very handy. You can make a dish like this instantly.
Ingredients
Mixed Grains 2 cups
Water 3 cups
Olive Oil 1 tablespoon
Salt 1/2 teaspoon
Method
- If your rice cooker has ‘Brown Rice’ setting, cook according to your rice cooker instruction. This is how I cook.
- Wash the Grain Mix well and drain water. Place the Grain Mix, Water, Olive Oil and Salt in a large sauce pan or rice cooker’s inner pot. *Note: The amount of Water depends on the types of the grains.
- Cook over low heat until water is gone, or let the rice cooker to cook. After water is gone, you need to let it steam at least for 10 minutes.

Is this a commercial “mixed grain” blend, or something you mixed yourself. If it’s a pre-mixed blend, what brand? If you mixed it yourself, we need the proportions of your blend. And if you created it yourself, where did you get the Azuki beans? That’s not something I’ve seen in the store before, in bags or anything.
And what if we don’t have a rice cooker? Can you provide stovetop cooking instructions?
Thanks.

I remember I used Sunrice’s Mixed Grain that was a mix of Medium Grain Brown Rice and Quinoa. I added some Wild Rice and Barley, but I don’t remember the ratio. If the grains that you cook require similar cooking time, it won’t matter how much of each grain you cook. As I wrote above, you can make your own mix by adding whatever grains you love.
Azuki Beans are from a supermarket. Many supermarkets in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs sell Azuki Beans, that might be called Red Beans. Most Asian grocers sell it, too.
If you don’t have a rice cooker? I would cook in a saucepan. I would boil until cooked, then drain unwanted water, just like cooking beans or barley.
