Using left-over cooked rice, I often make Onigiri. For seasoning, I use only Salt. Sometimes I grill them after brushing with some mixture of Soy Sauce and Mirin and make the outside slightly burnt. It is yummy! And this one with Miso Sauce is even yummier!
6 to 8 Rice Balls
500 to 600g Cooked Rice (Japanese Short Grain Rice)
1 tablespoon Miso
1/2 tablespoon Mirin
1/2 to 1 teaspoon Sugar
*Optional Ingredients: Sesame Seeds, finely chopped Spring Onion, Ginger, Shiso, Basil, etc.
- In a small bowl, mix Miso, Mirin and Sugar (and optional other ingredients) to make miso sauce.
- Make Onigiri. Find how to make ‘Triangular Onirigi’.
- Spread some miso sauce on one side of each Onigiri.
- Line a baking tray with aluminium foil and brush the foil lightly with Sesame Oil. Place Onigiri on the foil and grill until the miso sauce is slightly burnt.
