Everyone loves crispy Onion Rings. It is absolutely easy to make at home. There are many slightly different recipes for the batter. My batter is simple and it is based on Tempura Batter, but I don’t use Egg. You need to cook Onion Rings in the hot oil, but the Oil doesn’t need to be very deep. Using a frying pan, it is not scary. Why don’t you try?
Makes
2 to 3 Servings
Ingredients
1 Onion
Oil for frying
Tomato Ketchup, Salt & Pepper, Chilli Sauce, etc. to serve
Batter
1/4 cup Plain Flour
2 tablespoons Potato Starch OR Corn Starch
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
1/4 cup Cold Water
2 tablespoons Mayonnaise *I used Japanese Mayonnaise
Method
- Combine all the Batter ingredients in a bowl. Heat Oil, that is at least 3-4cm deep, to about 170℃.
- Cut Onion into 1cm thick rings. *Note: Small inner parts can be used for other dishes.
- Dip the rings in the Batter, and fry in the Oil, in batches, for a few minutes OR until nicely browned. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towel.
- Serve with Tomato Ketchup, Salt & Pepper, Chilli Sauce, etc. Today I served with Tomato Ketchup with a little Tabasco.
