Are you a fan of Japanese Curry Roux blocks? Those yummy Curry blocks are very versatile. You can easily make a sauce for steaks or roasts. They are great for stews and soups, too. Here is another quick and easy dish you can try with the Curry Roux blocks.
Makes
4 Servings
Ingredients
1/2 Cabbage *cut into 4 wedges keeping the core
1 to 2 tablespoons Oil
2 cups Beef Stock *OR 2 cups Water & 1 Beef Stock Cube
1 clove Garlic *finely chopped
1 small piece Ginger *finely chopped OR grated
2 Spring Onions OR 1/2 Onion *finely chopped
250g Beef Mince
50 to 60g Japanese Curry Roux Blocks *thinly sliced
1 to 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce *depending on the saltiness of the stock
Method
- You need a large and deep frying pan or shallow pot. Heat Oil over medium heat, cook Cabbage wedges until both side are nicely browned. *Note: Browning is optional.
- Add Beef Stock, sprinkle with Garlic and Ginger, cover with a lid, and bring to the boil.
- Sprinkle Beef Mince and Spring Onions around the Cabbage wedges, cover with the lid, and simmer for several minutes. Turn the Cabbage wedges over, cover with the lid again, and simmer for several minutes OR until all wedges are soft.
- Sprinkle the Curry Roux pieces over, add Soy Sauce, and simmer until the sauce is well combined. Today I served it with Rice.

hi there,
I would like to ask a few questions:
1 – Will spreading out the cabbage affect the end result much? is keeping the cabbage in wedges more for texture?
2 – normally curry tastes better after the next few days, but I’m worried about the consistency of the cabbage if i leave it in the fridge, will it be fine?

Hello. 1. You should cut cabbage in any shapes and any sizes you like. I cut the cabbage in wedges for the texture and presentation, but texture depends on the cooking time, I think. 2. I don’t know if this cabbage curry tastes better next day. Probably not. 3. I’m not sure browning mince separately makes the flavour different, but it means more work and extra washing. Why not the easiest way? It’s delicious enough to me.

oops 1 more,
3 – will browning the mince abit and setting it aside before sprinkling it on in step 3 make any differences?
