‘Otsumami’ is something to nibble often with drink which is most likely alcoholic drink. This is a perfect ‘Otsumami’. Crunchy Peanuts and fried Tofu are dressed with sweet miso sauce. Easy, quick and yummy! If you have a toaster oven, you can toast the Tofu pieces, and it is even easier.

Ingredients

200 to 300g Firm Tofu *cut into small cubes
1 tablespoon Oil
1/2 cup Unsalted Roasted Peanuts
2 tablespoons Miso *dark colour type recommended
1 tablespoon Sugar
1 tablespoon Mirin
Shichimi (Japanese Chilli Spice Mix) or Ground Chilli *optional

Method
  1. In a small bowl, combine Miso, Sugar and Mirin.
  2. Dry Tofu cubes with paper towel. Heat Oil in a frying pan and cook Tofu cubes until nicely browned and crunchy. Add Peanuts and stir-fry for a few minutes and remove from heat.
  3. Add the miso sauce and combine well. The remaining heat will cook the sauce slightly.
  4. Sprinkle some Shichimi (Japanese Chilli Spice Mix) or Ground Chilli if you like and enjoy with your favourite drink.
