Garlic, Butter & Soy Sauce is a great combination that makes a delicious sauce. Today I cooked Frozen ‘Satoimo’ (Taro) in this sauce with Chilli. As fresh Satoimo makes my hands terribly itchy, I prefer using Frozen ‘Satoimo’ which are already peeled. I pre-cook them in the microwave for this dish. This is a super quick & easy dish that is perfect for drinking.
Makes
2 to 3 Servings
Ingredients
1 bag (400 to 500g) Frozen Satoimo (Small Taro)
1/2 cup Water
1 to 2 cloves Garlic *finely chopped
20g Butter
1 to 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
1 to 2 tablespoons Mirin
1 pinch Ground Chilli OR Chilli Flakes
1 Spring Onion *finely chopped
Shichimi (Japanese Chilli Spice Mix) *optional
Method
- Place frozen ‘Satoimo’ in a heat-proof dish, add water to half cover the ‘Satoimo’. Cook in the microwave, uncovered, for 2-3 minutes. Turn them over and cook another 2 minutes OR until just soft enough. Cooking time depends on the powder of the microwave.
- Place Water, Garlic, Butter, Soy Sauce, Mirin and Ground Chilli in a large saucepan or frying pan, bring to the boil, add drained pre-cooked ‘Satoimo’, cover with a lid, and cook over a medium heat, stir and toss occasionally. When the sauce is reduced, remove the lid, and cook, tossing occasionally, until the sauce is almost gone.
- Sprinkle with some finely chopped Spring Onion. I added Shichimi (Japanese Chilli Spice Mix) for extra spiciness and flavour. Enjoy with cold Beer, OR freshly cooked Rice.
