‘Calamari (Squid) Rings’ are not difficult to make at home, but most people would not bother making them from scratch. How about this Calamari Rings without breads crumbs? Salt & Pepper the Calamari Rings, dust with Flour, dip in the whisked Egg, and fry. It is almost same as Tempura. Much easier than you think.

Ingredients

2 Squid Tubes *400 to 500g
Salt & Pepper
3 to 4 tablespoons Plain Flour
1 Egg *lightly whisked
Oil for frying
Lemon Wedges to serve *optional

Method
  1. Heat Oil in a heavy-based saucepan to 170°C to 180°C.
  2. Clean Squid Tubes, pat dry with paper towel, cut into 1cm-thick rings. Season with Salt and Pepper. Sprinkle with Plain Flour and lightly coat.
  3. Dip into whisked Egg, allow excess to run off, then carefully fry for 1 to 2 minutes or until lightly golden and crispy. Take them out and lay them on a rack to drain the excess oil. Serve hot or warm, with Lemon Wedges.
