‘Goma-ae’ is a Japanese dish of vegetables dressed with ‘Goma-ae’ sauce, which is made of Toasted Sesame Seeds, Sugar and Soy Sauce. Today I added Japanese Mayonnaise to it and I reduced the amount of Sugar. Creamy ‘Goma-ae’ sauce and Asparagus are a good match.
Makes
2 Servings
Ingredients
1 bunch (150g) Asparagus
Salt for cooking
Creamy ‘Goma-ae’ Sauce
1 tablespoon Toasted Sesame Seeds *ground
1/4 teaspoon Sugar
1 teaspoon Soy Sauce
1 tablespoon Japanese Mayonnaise
Method
- Trim Asparagus, cut into 3cm pieces, and blanch in salted water. Dip them into cold water and drain.
- Grind Toasted Sesame Seeds, add Sugar, Soy Sauce and Mayonnaise, and mix to make the sauce. Add the cooked Asparagus and combine well.

Hiroko, I can’t tell you how grateful I am for all your recipes. I have lost count of the number of times that I have an ingredient that I need to use but I have no idea what I am going to make. I made this for lunch today and ate it with a boiled egg. Oishi! I know that your recipes will always turn out and be delicious. Your skill and experience is obvious in the finished dish. Thank you again,
Hiroko

Hi Julie. Thank you for your kind words. I am so happy to know my recipes are helping you to decide what to cook, and I am happier to know you enjoyed the dishes you cooked. I am going to visit my mother in Japan nest week. She is 91 years old now, living alone and cooking everyday. She is an amazing cook and I will learn more of her cooking, and hopefully I will write more recipes to share with you.
