Cooking Okonomiyaki takes time, especially when you make many. Why don’t you bake it in oven just like pizza? You can make very large Okonomiyaki at a time and you don’t need to flip it over. Again I listed Pork and Cabbage in this recipe. These can be substituted for any ingredients at all. Because this is ‘Okonomiyaki’, you can use whatever you like.
Makes
4 to 6 Servings
Ingredients
2 cups Self-Raising Flour
1 & 3/4 cups Water
4 Eggs
1 pinch Salt
1/2 teaspoon Dashi Power *optional
1/4-1/2 Cabbage *add as much as you can combine with the batter
300g Thinly Sliced Pork Belly
Okonomiyaki Sauce
Japanese Mayonnaise
Ingredient Suggestions
Ham, Seafood, Sausage, Cheese, Bacon, Onion, Spring Onion, Mushrooms
Method
- Preheat the oven to 220°C. Make batter by mixing the Self-Raising Flour, Water, Eggs, Salt and Dashi Powder.
- Add shredded Cabbage to the batter and mix it well. Add as much Cabbage as you can combine with the batter. You may add more vegetables and other ingredients to it. If the batter is too runny, you can add extra Flour.

- Line 2 baking trays with baking paper. Spread the cabbage mixture on the trays and cover with thinly sliced pork. You may wish to place other ingredients on top of the mixture.

- Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until pork is brown and crisp and the cabbage mixture is cooked.
- Place the Okonomiyaki on a large plate or board. Dress with Okonomiyaki Sauce and Japanese Mayonnaise. Sprinkle Katsuobushi, Aonori or Benishooga (Pickled Ginger) if you have, and serve.

I was looking for an oven baked okonomiyaki recipe since I wanted to make something fun for 6 friends, and came across this. I made some mistakes but it still turned out tasty and my friends were impressed. I’ll definitely make this again and will try one of your pan ones next. Looking forward to trying more of your recipes. This site is very cute and easy to navigate. I

I had half a cabbage that I needed to use up, and I didn’t want to stand over the stove on such a hot day. I even managed to use up my leftover spring onions! Thank you!!! Hiroko, your brilliant recipes have saved me yet again!

Thanks for a great recipe. I have only one burner. Baking this makes it possible to cook something else along side. WE like green onion and cabbage in ours. I came looking for a Chinese pan cake recipe. Because I love scallion pancakes. But too much work. Then I found Okonomiyaki! And made it but used green onion instead of cabbage. Now I lilke the combination of both ingredients. And then, when I moved to my small apartment, and standing at the stove became a chore, I went looking for a baked version.I have made this many times now. My Hubby asked for my onion and cabbage pancake for New Year’s eave this year. So I am going to do so. Thanks so much. for a great time and effort saver. As well as a well thought out recipe.Well explained and illustrated.
