Coffee_Jelly

One of my favourite summer desserts is ‘Coffee Jelly’ which is very popular in Japan. It was quite hot yesterday and I craved it. ‘Coffee Jelly’ is very easy to make. You only need ‘Good Strong Coffee’ and ‘Gelatine’. I recommend to make your Coffee stronger than usual for the Jelly. Cold aromatic ‘Coffee Jelly’ with Cream and Syrup… you really should try it! *Note: You can find the Vegetarian version Coffee Jelly recipe here.

Makes

1 serving

Ingredients

1 teaspoon Gelatine Powder
1 tablespoon Water
200ml Good Strong Coffee
*Note: You may wish to add Sugar to make the Coffee Jelly sweet, OR enjoy unsweetened Coffee Jelly with Syrup.
*Note: The basic ratio of Gelatine Powder to Coffee is 2g to 100ml. Most common Gelatine Powder weighs 4g per teaspoonful. So, for 200ml Coffee, you need 1 teaspoon of Gelatine.

Method
  1. Sprinkle Gelatine Powder evenly over Water in a small bowl. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Make good strong Coffee. *Note: Add Sugar to suit your taste.
  3. Add the soaked Gelatine to hot Coffee and mix well. If coffee is not hot enough, Gelatine won’t dissolve. Heat it up in the microwave.
  4. Pour the jelly mixture into the serving glass. Skim off any surface bubbles if you wish. When cool enough, place it in the fridge and leave to set.
  5. Enjoy with Cream, and Syrup (if the jelly is not sweetened).
