You have some leftover Sweet Azuki Paste? If you have 1 sheet Butter Puff Pastry, you can make this yummy Asian dessert now. I added ground Black Sesame Seeds to the Sweet Azuki Paste for extra flavour, which is very nice, but it is optional as most people don’t stock Black Sesame Seeds. Peanut Butter is another good addition.
Makes
12 Fingers
Ingredients
1 sheet Butter Puff Pastry *thawed
‘Tsubu-an’ (Sweet Azuki Paste) *You would need about 1/2 cup
*Note: Today I used ‘Sweet Black Sesame & Azuki Paste’
*Note: Peanut Butter is another good addition.
1-2 teaspoons Milk *optional
Sugar for topping *optional
Method
- Preheat oven to 200℃. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
- Cut the sheet Butter Puff Pastry in half, spread Sweet Azuki Paste on one sheet and cover with the other.
- Lightly brush or spread Milk on top, scatter some Sugar evenly, but this is optional. Cut into 3 pieces, then cut each piece into 4 fingers.
- Place on the prepared baking tray. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden, then place on a wire rack to cool.

I made this today and it was delicious. I put chunky red bean paste then sprinkled pumpkin seeds, walnuts, white sesame and cinnamon before putting the second layer of pastry on. Very quick and easy, but a nice treat with ingredients I already had on hand in the house on a rainy when I couldn’t face going out to the supermarket. Enjoying them now (still warm) with a cup of tea.

Cherry, thank you for trying this recipe and posting the comment. You added pumpkin seeds, walnuts, white sesame and cinnamon to Azuki paste! It must have been delicious. I have never added pumpkin seeds to Azuki paste, but I know they would taste good together. I will try that next time. Thank you for your inspiration.
