Many Japanese dishes are seasoned with Sugar, Soy Sauce and Mirin. The flavour is something I crave every now and then. This ‘Beef & Carrot’ is seasoned with those three. The dish has no special element, yet it tastes so good to me. With freshly cooked Rice and a comforting soup, and maybe with a small refreshing vegetable dish, it perfects a Japanese style meal.
2 Carrots *about 200g
250g Beef Steak *thinly sliced
1 small piece Ginger *cut into fine strips
1 tablespoon Oil *I used Sesame Oil
Chilli Flakes *optional
1 tablespoon Sugar
2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
1 tablespoon Mirin
- Cut Carrot in half lengthways, and cut diagonally into 2-3mm thick slices. Slice Beef Steak as thinly as you can. Cut Ginger into fine strips.
- Heat Oil in a frying pan, cook Carrot. When half cooked, add Beef and Ginger, add Chilli Flakes if you add any, and stir until Beef is cooked.
- Add Sugar, Soy Sauce and Mirin, and stir until sauce is almost gone. Serve with freshly cooked Rice.
