‘Goma-ae’, the dish of vegetables seasoned with sweet sesame seeds sauce is very popular with my family. Most commonly I use cooked vegetables such as Green Beans, Carrot or Spinach. I recently discovered fresh cucumber is also very tasty with ‘Goma-ae’ sauce.

4 servings

1 large Continental Cucumber *OR 2 Lebanese Cucumbers
1/4 teaspoon Salt

‘Goma-ae’ Sauce
1 tablespoon Toasted Sesame Seeds *ground
1/2 tablespoon Sugar
1 tablespoon Soy Sauce

  1. Cut Cucumber in bite-size pieces. Sprinkle Salt and massage, then set aside. *Note: The Cucumber in the above photo was cut in the same way as Cucumber Snake.
  2. To make ‘Goma-ae’ sauce, toast Sesame Seeds in a sauce pan until golden, then grind until aromatic. Do not over grind! Then add Sugar and Soy Sauce and mix well.
  3. Combine the cucumber and the sauce well and serve immediately.
