In Japan, there is a dish called ‘Crab Cream Croquette’, that is deep-fried crumbed thick mixture of Crab Meat and Cream Sauce. In Melbourne where I live, it is very difficult for me find real Crab Legs. Today I cooked the softer Crab Cream using Imitation Crab Meat, mixed Pasta with it, covered with Cheese, and baked it. The result was excellent. Of course you can use real Crab Meat, and that would taste nicer.

Makes

2 to 3 Servings

Ingredients

30g Butter
1/2 Onion *thinly sliced OR finely chopped
3 tablespoons Plain Flour
2 cups Milk
150g Imitation Crab Meat (Surimi) *OR cooked Crab Meat

1/2 teaspoon Salt *alter the amount to suit your taste
Ground Pepper OR Chilli as required
100g Pasta *e.g. Macaroni, Pennette, Trivelle, Gemelli, etc.
1/2 cup shredded Cheese *I used Cheese Mix for Baking

Method
  1. Preheat oven to 200℃.
  2. Cook Pasta of your choice in the boiling salted water. Drain and transfer to the sauce later.
  3. Prepare Onion. Cut Imitation Crab Meat (Surimi) into bite-size piece.
  4. Melt Butter in a frying pan over medium heat, cook Onion for a few minutes. Add Flour and stir, add Milk and Imitation Crab Meat, and cook until thickens. Season with Salt and White Pepper (OR Chilli). *Note: I added 1/2 teaspoon and 1 pinch Salt.
  5. Add the drained cooked Pasta to the sauce, and mix to combine. Spoon into a baking dish, scatter shredded Cheese, and bake for 20 minutes OR until golden.
  6. *Note: You don’t need to bake it. Just mix this Crab Cream Sauce and Pasta of your choice, and enjoy.
