green_peas_rice

When spring vegetables are in season, even in a supermarket, I sometimes come across fresh green peas in the pod. It’s time to cook this dish which is one of my Top 3 favourite rice dishes. It’s another very simple seasonal dish. But you only can cook it in Spring when fresh green peas are available.

Do not use frozen peas for this dish. You need fresh peas. Remove them from the pod just before you cook. I used to help my mother and it’s my fond childhood memory.

Makes

4 Servings

Ingredients

2 cups (*180ml cup) Japanese Short Grain Rice
100g Fresh Green Peas removed from the pod *about 1 cup
1 tablespoon Sake (Rice Wine)
1/2 teaspoon Salt

Method
  1. Wash Rice and place it in the rice cooker. Add water up to the 2-cups-marking.
  2. Add Sake & Salt and mix lightly, then place the peas freshly removed from the pod. Press ‘COOK’ button to start cooking.
  3. When the rice is cooked, loosen and mix gently.
