This dish is not very healthy as Brussels Sprouts are cooked with Bacon fat. If you want to make it less unhealthy, you can remove all the Bacon fat and cook Brussels Sprouts with healthy Oil. Parmesan Cheese is optional, but I found it adds extra flavour and the dish tastes better.

Makes

4 Servings

Ingredients

12 Brussels Sprouts *trimmed and cut in half
80g Bacon *Streaky Bacon recommended, cut into 1-2cm pieces
Oil *optional
4 tablespoons (1/4 cup) Water
1 pinch Salt
Freshly Ground Black Pepper
Parmesan Cheese *optional

Method
  1. Heat a frying pan over medium heat, lightly oil it if required, and cook Bacon pieces until nicely browned. Transfer to a sheet of paper towel and set aside.
  2. There should be 1-2 tablespoons Bacon fat in the pan. If there is too much, remove some. If not enough, add some Oil.
  3. Pack the pan with Brussels Sprouts with cut side down, sprinkle with Salt, add Water, cover with a lid, and steam-cook for a few minutes.
  4. When the Water in the pan is evaporated, remove the lid and keep cooking until Brussels Sprouts are nicely browned. Add the Bacon pieces, sprinkle with some freshly ground Black Pepper, add some grated Parmesan if you like it, and serve.
