I believe most people stock some Onions at home. This is a super easy side dish that you can cook with Onion only. I cooked it in my favourite pan-steam-frying method with some water. Softly cooked Onion is sweet and tasty. When it is slightly caramelised, it tastes even better.

Makes

2 Servings

Ingredients

1 large Onion
1 tablespoon Oil of your choice
1 pinch Salt *plus extra
4 tablespoons (1/4 cup) Water

Optional Ingredients
1 clove Garlic *finely chopped
Herbs of your choice *e.g. Parsley, Thyme, etc.
Ground Pepper

Method
  1. Peel Onion and cut into 1cm thick rounds.
  2. Drizzle Oil over a frying pan, place Onion, sprinkle with Salt and Water (and Garlic if you add it). Cover with a lid and cook over medium high heat for a few minutes.

  3. When the Water in the pan is evaporated, remove the lid, and stir until slightly caramelised. Add extra Salt (if required), and Black Pepper OR Herbs if you want to add any, and serve.
