Thinly sliced meat are very popular in Japan and I used to cook them in many different ways. In Australia, I have to slice meat by myself if I need very thin slices. But I recently discovered the Schnitzel steaks can be easily pounded to very thin! Here is one Quick & Easy recipe for you to try.
Makes
4 Servings
Ingredients
Thin Pork Slices 600 to 700g
*Schnitzel steaks or Pork steaks sliced in half horizontally into thin steaks
Miso Sesame Sauce
Toasted Sesame Seeds 2 tablespoons *ground
Miso 3 tablespoons
Sugar 1 tablespoons
Mirin 1 to 2 tablespoons
Soy Sauce 1/2 to 1 tablespoons
Ginger 1 small piece *grated
Garlic, Chilli *optional
Method
- Toast Sesame Seeds in a sauce pan until golden, then grind until aromatic. Add other ingredients and mix well. Grated Garlic and some Chilli can be added for extra flavour.
- Using a meat mallet or a rolling pin or the bottom of a heavy pan, pound pork slices between two sheets of plastic wrap to very thin.
- Oil a heated frying pan or a grill pan and cook Pork. When the Pork changes colour and turns slightly brown, add the Miso Sesame Sauce, and make the Pork coated well with the sauce and caramelised. Whole process won’t take long.
- Serve with rice and stir-fried or steamed vegetables.
