One of the most popular Japanese dishes is ‘Goma-ae’, the dishes of vegetables mixed with the sweet ‘Goma-ae’ sauce. You can find a variety of ‘Goma-ae’ recipes on my website, as I cook them very often. This time I added Tofu to make the dish even more nutritious.

Makes

4 to 6 Servings

Ingredients

1 bunch (*about 300g) Spinach
1 small Carrot *sliced into thin strips
1/2 Firm Tofu *200 to 250g
1 tablespoon Canola Oil

‘Goma-ae’ Sauce

3 tablespoons Toasted Sesame Seeds *ground
2 tablespoons Sugar
3 tablespoons Soy Sauce
1 teaspoon grated Ginger

Method
  1. Grind Toasted Sesame Seeds, add other sauce ingredients and mix well. *See ‘How To Grind Sesame Seeds Using A Plastic Bag’.
  2. Wash Spinach well and blanch in boiling water. Dip in cold water to stop cooking further, drain well and squeeze to remove excess water. Cut into 5cm in length. Blanch Carrot strips in boiling water as well.
  3. Slice Firm Tofu. Heat Oil in a frying pan over medium high heat, cook Tofu slices until golden and crispy. Cut into thin strips.
  4. In a bowl, combine Tofu strips and a half of the sauce, then add vegetables and the remaining sauce, and mix well.
