There is a popular Japanese dish called ‘Hiyayakko’. It is basically cold soft type Tofu. You can eat it with just Soy Sauce, but we often add a variety of condiments, herbs, vegetables, etc. Spring Onion and Bonito Flakes are popular. I like Kimchi. ‘Hiyayakko’ is a quick and easy dish that is perfect on a hot summer day. Here is my newest invention. It is actually very filling.
3 to 4 Spring Onions *finely chopped
1 clove Garlic *grated
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Sesame Oil
2 x 300g Silken Tofu *OR other soft type Tofu
Crispy Chilli Oil
- Combine finely chopped Spring Onion, grated Garlic, Salt and Sesame Oil in a bowl.
- Remove excess water from Tofu, place in serving bowl OR plate, cover with the Spring Onion mixture.
- Add Fried Shallots and Crispy Chilli Oil as much as you want, drizzle with Soy Sauce, and enjoy. *Note: Fried Shallots and Crispy Chilli Oil are available from most supermarket stores in Australia. Asian grocery stores are definitely selling them.
