The sausages in Japan are mainly European style smoked sausages. I came across the uncooked raw English style sausages in Australia for the first time. I still prefer smoked sausages and I especially like German sausages. I used to cook this Curry Flavoured Potato Salad with German Sausages quite often in Japan, but it’s been difficult to cook it here in Melbourne because I couldn’t find German sausages.
But now, thanks to ALDI supermarkets, I have easy access to German food. Smoked sausages are available from those stores. I love this salad.
Makes
4 Servings
Ingredients
Potatoes 3 to 4 *about 400g
German Sausages OR Smoked European Style Sausages 300g
Salt
Freshly Cracked Pepper
Japanese Mayonnaise 1/3 to 1/2 cup
Curry Powder 2 to 3 teaspoons
Spring Onion 2 *finely chopped
Method
- Peel Potatoes and cut into chunky pieces. Cook Potatoes in salted water until tender. Drain well.
- Cut the Sausage(s) into chunky pieces. Heat a frying pan or grill pan, cook sausage pieces until lightly browned. Alternatively you can cook in the toaster oven.
- Place cooked Potatoes in a large bowl and season with Salt & Pepper. Add browned Sausage pieces, chopped Spring Onion, Japanese Mayonnaise and Curry Powder, and mix to combine well.

Dear Hiroko-san,
I have been following your blog for a long-long time now, but I have never left a comment up until now.
I am making your potato sausage salad recipe now, and since this is the recipe I’ve made the most often from this blog (at least 5 times) I thought it would be appropriate to say my thanks here. Your recipes are wonderful, and I am so glad to have found them when I didn’t know how/what to cook after moving to Japan.
