You have a leftover Hot Cross Bun? If it is old and dry, it’s perfect for this. You can make this comforting treat in less than 10 minutes using microwave. You can double or quadruple the amount for multiple servings, and bake it in the oven instead of microwaving, just like ‘Bread & Butter Pudding’.


1 Serving


1 Traditional Hot Cross Bun
1 Egg
2 teaspoons Caster Sugar
1/2 cup Full Cream Milk
Ice Cream OR Thickened Cream to serve

  1. Crack an Egg into a mug and whisk. Add Sugar and Milk, and mix well.
  2. Slice the Hot Cross Bun in half, butter both slices, tear into smaller pieces, and add to the mug. Allow to rest for 5 minutes.
  3. Place the mug on a small plate just in case it boils over, place in the microwave, cook at 500W power for 1 minutes. This process warms the mixture. Push the Hot Cross Bun pieces down into the mixture, then cook again for 1 minutes, and again for 30 seconds OR until cooked though.
  4. Allow to rest for 1 minute. Enjoy with Ice Cream OR Thickened Cream.
