Custard Powder is a mixture of Starch, Sugar, Colours and Flavours. You mix Custard Powder and some Sugar with Milk in a saucepan, and heat it. That is the easiest way to make custard and it’s Egg-free. It can be Vegan if you use plant-based Milk. Custard Powder is basically Corn Starch. I made this Jelly based on my ‘Corn Starch Milk Jelly’ recipe. It worked perfectly.

Makes

2 Servings

Ingredients

300ml Milk *any Milk of your choice
2 tablespoons Sugar
3 tablespoons Custard Powder *1 tablespoon is 15ml
*Note: I used Foster Clark’s Custard Powder
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract *optional
Caramel Sauce to serve

Method
  1. Place Custard Powder and Sugar in a saucepan, and blend well. Add Milk and Vanilla, and mix well. Heat over medium low heat, stirring frequently, and bring to the boil. When the mixture is thick and gooey, remove from the heat.
  2. Pour the mixture into moulds (ramekins, cups, etc.) OR serving glasses, and set aside and cool. When cooled, cover with lids OR plastic food wrap if necessary, and leave in the fridge until completely set.
  3. *Note: Avoid any water gets in the jelly due to condensation. Water softens the mixture and ruins the jelly.
  4. Serve with Caramel Sauce, that is easy to make. Maple Syrup is also nice. You may wish to decorate the Jelly with whipped Cream, Fruit, etc.
