Nori (Seaweed Sheet) is not only for wrapping Sushi or Onigiri (Rice Balls). Nori can be used for many dishes such as ‘Scrambled Egg & Nori’ and ‘Stir-fried Broccoli & Nori’. Nori is basically a soft sea plant processed into dried sheets. Here is another way to use it. Cook Rice and Nori together.

Makes

4 Servings

Ingredients

2 cups (*180ml cup) Japanese Short Grain Rice
1/2 teaspoon Dashi Powder
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1 tablespoons Soy Sauce
1 tablespoon Sake (Rice Wine)
1 tablespoon Mirin
1 teaspoon Sesame Oil
2 sheets Toasted Nori *torn into small pieces
1 Spring Onion *finely chopped
Toasted Sesame Seeds

Method
  1. Wash Rice by stirring it thoroughly in water with your hand and drain the water. Repeat this a few more times until water flows through clear. Place it into the rice cooker’s inner pot and add Water up to the 2-cups-marking.
  2. Add Dashi Powder, Salt, Soy Sauce, Sake (Rice Wine), Mirin and Sesame Oil, and gently stir. Scatter Toasted Nori peaces over.
  3. Press ‘COOK’ button to start cooking. When the rice is cooked, let it steamed for 10 minutes. Then mix gently.
  4. Sprinkle with some finely chopped Spring Onion and Toasted Sesame Seeds, and enjoy.
