The vegetarian Milk Jelly can be easily made with Corn Starch, but Agar Agar Powder is also a great option. I used Golden Cup Agar Agar Powder and it is available from most Asian grocery stores. Today I used Soy Milk, so this jelly is actually Vegan. Enjoy the Milk Jelly with your favourite fruit, sauce OR syrup. I added Strawberry Sauce in the photo above.
Makes
4 Servings
Ingredients
1 & 1/4 teaspoons (4g) Agar Agar Powder *I used Golden Cup Agar Agar Powder
*Note: If you set this jelly in serving glasses, 1 teaspoon is enough for softer jelly.
2 cups (500ml) Milk of your choice *I used Soy Milk today
1 to 4 tablespoons Sugar
*Note: Add Sugar depending on sweetness of the Milk you use. Today I used Soy Milk that was slightly sweetened, and I added 1 tablespoon.
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract *optional
Coffee Syrup, Muscovado Syrup (黒みつ), Matcha Syrup, Blueberry Sauce, Strawberry Sauce, Pureed Mango, Passionfruit, etc.
Method
- Place Sugar and Agar Agar Powder in a saucepan and mix well. Add Milk of your choice and Vanilla, mix well, and bring to the boil, stirring frequently. Once it started boiling, remove from heat.
- Pour the mixture in the serving glasses, jelly moulds or a plastic container. When cool enough, cover with plastic wrap or a lid, and place in the fridge for a few hours or until completely set.
- *Note: When you use Soy Milk, the boiled Soy Milk might form a thin film of protein on the surface. I recommend to remove the film before the jelly sets.
- Spoon out OR cut into small cubes if set in a container, and enjoy the jelly with your favourite fruit, sauce OR syrup. The photo above is Soy Milk Jelly and I added Strawberry Sauce.
- *Note: The photo below is the same jelly, set in a container and spooned out, and I added Coffee Syrup.
