Do you like strawberry sauce topping for ice cream, cheesecake or pancakes? I bet you do!

Do you know what is in the shop-bought strawberry sauce? The most common ingredients are Water, Sugar, Strawberries, Thickener, Colour, Strawberry Flavour, Food Acid, Vegetable Gum and Preservative. Do you know what you need to make it at home? You only need Strawberries and Sugar, and it doesn’t take long at all.

Ingredients

Strawberries 1 punnet *about 250g
Sugar 3 to 4 tablespoons

Method
  1. Rinse the strawberries, remove the hulls, and slice thickly or cut in halves (or quarters if large). Place them in a saucepan, squash a little bit using a masher or spoon to let some juice come out, as this will speed up the cooking process. *Note: If you want the sauce more sour, you may wish to add some Lemon Juice.
  2. Add Sugar and bring to the boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. The sauce will thicken up slightly as it cools.
