I first made this dish by accident. I made ‘Goma-ae’ Broccoli the other day. ‘Goma-ae’ is a Japanese dish of vegetables dressed with ‘Goma-ae’ Sauce, which is made of Toasted Sesame Seeds, Sugar and Soy Sauce. I frequently make it using a variety of vegetables. However, this time, the sauce was too much for the amount of Broccoli and the flavour was too strong. I needed to add something else. Then I found some cooked Chickpeas in the fridge and I added them to the Broccoli. OMG!!! It was delicious. Why have I never used Chickpeas for ‘Goma-ae’? Now I have another ‘Goma-ae’ recipe to share with you.
1 can (400g) Chickpeas *drained and rinsed
1 small head Broccoli *cut into small florets, stem cut into small pieces
2 tablespoons Toasted Sesame Seeds *ground
1 tablespoon Sugar
1 & 1/2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
Chilli Flakes as required *optional
- Cook Broccoli firmly. Steaming OR Pan-steaming method is recommended. To pan-steam Broccoli, drizzle a very small amount of Oil in a frying pan, arrange Broccoli in the pan, add 2 tablespoons Water, cover with a lid, and cook over medium heat until Water in the pan is evaporated.
- Combine all the ‘Goma-ae’ Sauce ingredients in a mixing bowl. Add cooked Broccoli and drained Chickpeas, and mix to combine.
