Pork Steaks can be marinated in this Chinese inspired sauce very quickly. No need to marinate them for hours. If you don’t have Chinese Five Spice, don’t worry about it. The sauce tastes good without it. Serve with freshly cooked Rice, OR enjoy with chilled Beer.

Makes

4 Servings

Ingredients

4 Pork Steaks *about 500g
1 to 2 teaspoons Sesame Oil

Marinade
1 small piece Ginger *grated
1 clove Garlic *grated
1 tablespoon Sugar *OR Honey
1 to 2 tablespoons Oyster Sauce *If you serve this dish with Rice, 2 tablespoons would be better
1 tablespoon Soy Sauce
1 tablespoon Sake (Rice Wine)
1/8 teaspoon Ground Chilli *OR as required
1/4 teaspoon Chinese Five Spice *optional

Method
  1. Combine all the Marinade ingredients in a bowl, add Pork Steaks, coat them with the sauce well, and set aside for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Scrape off the marinade from Pork Steaks. Heat Sesame Oil in a frying pan over medium high heat and cook until both sides are nicely browned. *Note: I recommend to cover with a lid to stop the splatter and also cook through more quickly.
  3. When Pork Steaks are browned, lower the heat, add all the marinade, and cook for a few more minutes until the sauce thickens.
