I bought ‘Takuan’ (Japanese Pickled Daikon), that was quite sweet. ‘Takuan’ can be used for cooking and I often add it to salads such as Coleslaw. Today I thinly sliced it and mixed with Chilli Paste. I even added some Ground Chilli as well. It was supposed to be very spicy but it was quite enjoyable even for me. If you like ‘Takuan’, you may wish to try it. This is how I made it.

Makes

2 to 4 Servings

Ingredients

100g ‘Takuan’ (Japanese Pickled Daikon)
1/2 tablespoon Toasted Sesame Seeds
1/2 tablespoon Sesame Oil
1/2 tablespoon Toban Djan (Chilli Bean Sauce)
Ground Chilli as required
1 Spring Onion *lighter colour parts only, finely chopped
Sugar *optional, depending on the sweetness of ‘Takuan’

Method
  1. Thinly slice ‘Takuan’ (Japanese Pickled Daikon), 1-2mm thin. Place in a small bowl.
  2. Add all other ingredients and mix well. Taste it, and add some Sugar if required. *Note: Today I added no Sugar as the ‘Takuan’ that I used was quite sweet.
