There is a very popular dish in Japan, and I believe it can be considered as a Japan’s national food. It’s ‘Tamago Kake Gohan’, a raw Egg on freshly cooked hot Rice. People drizzle with some Soy Sauce and mix all together before they eat it. The raw Egg would be slightly cooked by the heat of the hot rice. I often add Nori OR Crispy Chilli Oil to it. This Parmesan version is an Italian inspired one. No Soy Sauce, but grated Parmesan, a little Olive Oil, Salt and Black Pepper are added. I think it is yummy, and super quick and easy to make.
1 serving freshly cooked hot Rice *Short OR Medium Grain Rice
1 Egg Yolk OR Whole Egg *choose a good quality Egg
1 to 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan
Salt & freshly ground Black Pepper
- Place freshly cooked hot Rice in a serving bowl. Add Egg on top, cover with grated Parmesan, drizzle with a little Olive Oil, add Salt and Black Pepper.
- Mix all together and enjoy.
- *Note: The photo below is the most basic and common ‘Tamago Kake Gohan’. Add whatever you like. I like to add Toasted Nori that is torn into small pieces. Crispy Chilli Oil is also a really good addition.
