I often make fried snack using leftover Gyoza Wrappers. Filling can be anything. My favourite is sweet Azuki Paste (‘Tsubu-an’), but you might prefer something savoury such as Cheese. Today I wrapped ‘Sweet Coconut Filling’. Coconut lovers would enjoy this snack.

Makes

16 Pieces

Ingredients

16 Gyoza Wrappers
Oil for frying

Filling
1 cup (90g) Desiccated Coconut
1/2 cup Milk
1/3 cup (90g) White Sugar OR Brown Sugar
1 pinch Salt
1/2 tablespoon (1 & 1/2 teaspoons) Plain Flour *optional, but recommended
*Note: You can use Gluten-free Flour such as Rice Flour
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Method
  1. Place all the Filling ingredients in a saucepan, mix well using a spatula, bring to the boil over medium low heat, stirring constantly. Cook, stirring, for a few minutes until the texture is similar to firm paste, and set aside and cool.
  2. *Note: You can add some finely chopped Roasted Nuts such as Cashew OR Pistachio, etc.
  3. Wet the edges of a Gyoza Wrapper with water, place 2-3 teaspoonfuls of Coconut Filling in the centre, fold in half, and secure the edges as you remove the air inside. Repeat the process. *Note: I recommend to press the edges using a fork to secure.
  4. Fry in the deep enough oil until golden and drain oil on a rack OR paper towel. Enjoy while they are crispy.
