How can I translate a Japanese word ‘Otsumami’ into English? It is not ‘Appetiser’ or ‘Snack’. ‘Otsumami’ is something to nibble often with a drink, which is most likely an alcoholic drink. The other day I needed to make ‘Otsumami’ quickly for an unexpected occasion and this ‘Spicy Almonds’ was perfect.
Ingredients
1 cup Roasted Almonds *OR Raw Almonds
1 tablespoon Olive Oil
Chilli Seasoning
1 & 1/2 teaspoons Dried Oregano
1/2 teaspoon Ground Cumin
1/2 teaspoon Ground Chill
1/2 teaspoon Ground Paprika
1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
1/2 teaspoon fine Salt
Method
- Combine all the Seasoning ingredients in a small bowl.
- Place Olive Oil and Roasted Almonds in a frying pan, and heat over medium heat, tossing occasionally, for a few minutes. As Roasted Almonds are already cooked, you just need to heat them. *Note: If you use Raw Almonds, you need to cook them until aromatic, so that Almonds turn crunchy when cooled.
- Add the seasoning and coat the Almonds. Place paper towel on a plate, spread the Almonds on the paper towel, and cool completely.
