‘Yakiniku’ Sauce is a dipping sauce for Japanese style BBQ. A variety of Yakiniku Sauce products are available to purchase, but it is quite easy to make. I want to share my family’s ‘Yakiniku’ Sauce recipe. My mother used to make a large amount at a time and keep it in a bottle, ready to use any time. This sauce can be used to marinate BBQ meat and also to season stir-fry dishes.

I also share a recipe for Quick & Easy ‘Yakiniku’ Sauce that I often make when I need only a small amount of sauce.

My Family’s ‘Yakiniku’ Sauce

2 tablespoons Toasted Sesame Seeds *ground
2 cloves Garlic *grated
1 small piece Ginger *grated
1/2 Apple *peeled and grated
1/4 Onion * grated
1/2 cup Soy Sauce
1/4 cup Mirin
1 to 2 teaspoons Toban Djan (Chili Bean Sauce)
1 to 2 teaspoons Sugar *optional

Method
  1. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and bring it to the boil. Once it started boiling, remove from the heat, then cool.
  2. *Note: You may wish to add more Toban Djan (Chili Bean Sauce) to make the sauce spicy, OR more Sugar to make it sweet. Alter this recipe and make your own ‘Yakiniku’ Sauce.
