Canned Fish are essential items for me. I always stock some Canned Tuna, Mackerel, Salmon and Sardines. It seems Canned Sardines are the least popular, but you can make many delicious dishes with them. I most often make Rice Bowl dishes such as ‘Canned Sardines Rice Bowl’. This dish is very similar, but it’s a Spaghetti dish. Cheap, quick and easy, and so yummy.
1 serving Spaghetti
1 can (*110g) Sardines in Olive Oil
1 small clove Garlic *crushed or minced
Chilli Flakes as required
1 tablespoon Sake (Rice Wine) *OR Mirin for slightly sweet flavour
2 teaspoons Soy Sauce
1 handful Baby Spinach
Finely chopped Spring Onion
Shichimi (Japanese Chilli Spice Mix) OR Ground Chilli
- Cook Spaghetti in boiling salted water according to the instruction on the package.
- Empty the can of Sardines into a frying pan, add Garlic, Chilli, Sake (OR Mirin) and Soy Sauce.
- When Spaghetti are nearly cooked, heat the frying pan over high heat, and cook for a few minutes. Then add Baby Spinach and drained Spaghetti, and gently mix to combine.
